Alastair has a new writing challenge. Details here.

Thank you Alastair, this was fun. I love your photos by the way, nice work.

Broken bones, black-eyes and humiliation filled the baggage she carried to the beach. Baggage she hoped to lose faster than the airport. Bogged down by student loans and insecurity she endured life with Thomas, for four years, but when the last straw broke, her spine stiffened. Two days in the hospital convinced her it was time to disappear, stand on her own.

Facing the surf, she held her only photo of Thomas. Cast it to the surf, or keep it as a reminder?

It was a graceful, but alarming swoop when the gull seemed to target her.  Freezing in place she gasped as it snatched the photo before disappearing down the coast.  Smiling, she realized the bird was right, Thomas deserved to end up at the bottom of the ocean.
