At the beginning she didn’t know who he was, why he chose her or how he knew so much about her. It had started with phone calls to her unlisted cell phone and weekly flower deliveries. As his invisible advances continued her level of fear rose. Eventually, generic flower deliveries were replaced by bouquets of daisies and red roses, her favorite. When she called the local diner she would learn that an order for her “usual dinner” had already been placed, and paid for.

He would call in the morning, complimenting her on the days outfit. At night, he would ask her how she liked the movie she was watching or why she was painting her nails red when he preferred darker colors. She contacted the phone company, changed cell phones, changed the locks on her apartment, talked to the building super and local police, but she felt like she was walking around with a target on her back. Eventually, he taunted her with promises, letting her know she wouldn’t have to wait much longer to meet.

But, he wasn’t the only one to know things. After listening to him talk she knew he liked dark nail polish and that his voice was extra tender and loving when he called after she had her bath. He almost sounded romantic as he waxed on about cleansing the body, softening the skin and relaxing the mind so it was open to new adventures.

Baiting the trap, she painted her nails black and filled the tub, trickling in some of her favorite oil before sinking to the bottom.  Her arms draped over the sides as she closed her eyes to relax.  Smiling, she waited for him to come to her. What he didn’t see, was her right arm, draped between the tub and the wall, its fingers wrapped around the pistol her father gave her when she moved out.  Giggling, she wondered if she should have put out a welcome mat.

I like it, Turnip! This is one of your better ones! How come the guy who notices the little things has to be some creepy stalker dude? [sigh]

  6. muZer says:

He was quite a stalker. But I liked her confidence and the way she handled him in the end. Unexpected but he asked for it. Great story.
