A backward glance invoked nervous laughter mingled with tears.

“That path is as crooked as the one I took,” she howled.

Failed marriages, ill-fated bar jobs that used her as a piece of meat, bad dating judgement and backstabbing friends had taken their toll. Ready to jump, she had stood on that bridge for an hour, screaming as a hand grazed her back. Spinning on her heels she found herself looking into the warmest pair of brown eyes she had ever seen. They became one, breathing each other like oxygen. She was done being alone.
